SCIMAT

Our story.

Scimat Education and Disposals is a 100% black-owned STEM solutions provider, founded in 2011 in response to the pressing need for Department of Education support in STEM education. A BBBEE Level 1 company, we now serve all nine provinces of South Africa. We began in Mathematics and Science and have since expanded into robotics (from Early Childhood Development through to Grade 12) as well as the safe disposal of expired laboratory chemicals. With offices in Gauteng and Limpopo, we deliver projects on a national scale.

What we stand for.

Our vision is to lead the advancement of STEM education through strategic partnerships and comprehensive development initiatives, reinforcing our commitment to our clients and to the nation as a whole.

Our mission is to enhance STEM education by delivering tailor-made programmes, interventions, services, equipment and materials, contributing significantly to the skills base and human capital essential for South Africa's sustainable development.

  • Impact-led

Numbers beat adjectives. Every programme is evaluated against measurable outcomes.

  • People-first

We speak about learners, teachers, and communities as specific people, not stakeholders.

  • Collaborative

We work alongside teachers, not above them. Alongside schools, not in spite of them.

  • Credible

An approved SACE professional development provider (no. PR000000229, valid to December 2028), with teacher programmes endorsed for 15 CPD points each.

The people behind the work.

SCIMAT was founded by Herman Sekoele, whose journey in STEM education began as a mathematics, science and technology teacher in rural Limpopo. He went on to facilitate STEM teacher development in Limpopo and KwaZulu-Natal, then managed nationwide STEM projects in Gauteng as a Senior Projects Manager. He is a co-author of a Grade 12 Mathematics Literacy textbook published by Macmillan, and in 2024 was named a winner of the SA Men of the Year (365 Men of the Year) Award in the Education category. Our facilitators bring deep experience from lecturing at top universities, presenting at national and international conferences, authoring learning materials, and contributing to the national Technology curriculum.

Who we work with.

We are proud to partner with funders, foundations, government departments and corporates who share our commitment to advancing STEM education across South Africa.

Science and mathematics education is a team sport.

Whether you are a school, an educator, a partner organisation, or a fellow non-profit, there is a way to plug into the work. We believe long-term collaboration is how real change compounds.
